Athletics: Review for 2005/06

In lessons, every girl knows her personal best score in every event, and earns 'Games Points' for beating her PB.  This has encouraged the girls and they really put great effort into improving their scores. On Sports Day, about 85% of all attempts were personal best scores - what more could we ask for from these wonderful girls! I was very impressed with the quality of performances shown both on the track and the technical field events. Girls encouraged each other and displayed great sportsmanship, particularly in the gruelling middle distance races. Ten school records were equalled or broken this year, which in itself is an outstanding achievement by the athletes. Record holders are:

Year Three: Mia Smith 100m 16.1s, Rounders ball throw 25m 60cm, Long Jump 3m 11cm
Year Four: Charlotte Short 200m 34.2s, Long Jump 3m 34cm, Hannah Flemington 100m 16.0s,  Abigail Leach High jump 1m 10cm
Year Five: Imogen Goring 100m 15.2s. Natasha Farrant Rounders ball throw 41m 65cm
Year Six: Hattie Grant Shot 6m 30cm, Coniston 4 x 200 Relay 2m 22.Os, Emma Vickery came 3rd in shot at the regional athletics championships. Lucy Kerr came 1st in shot at the regionals, and qualified for the IAPS National Championships, where she achieved 7th place.  The U9 athletics team won their match against St Michael's and Hawthorns achieving 52 points, a clear 20 points ahead of the others!
