Deputy Head Teacher Mary Brett Cert. Ed. (Maria Assumpta College, London) B.A. (OU)
Mary was educated in the Bar Convent in York and attended the sixth form at Termough Convent, Penryn. After the wilds of Cornwall, her teacher training years were spent in what was then Maria Assumpta College, Kensington Square. During her early years teaching in Enfield, and then Shrewsbury, she not only got married but also gained an Open University B.A.
When her children were very young Mary lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she set up a pre-school group for children from the ex-pat community. Once her daughter started school at the 'Escola Americana', she worked with children learning to speak English. Later she did supply teaching in the Early Childhood Education department of the American School.
On her return to the United Kingdom Mary taught part time in Borough Green Primary School before following her son to Somerhill. As he moved out of the Pre-Prep and on to Yardley Court, she began teaching the twelve Year Two pupils. That was in 1992 and she has been here ever since! Two years ago she took over the Deputy Headship and moved into Year One.
