Derwent Lodge was founded in 1952 in Tunbridge Wells. When the School began to outgrow its premises, a decision was made in 1993 to join Yardley Court on the Somerhill site.
We foster a strong sense of community spirit within the School and the girls are taught to work and play together in harmony, as well being encouraged to care for one another. We strive for excellence and value every child as an individual learner. The girls are supported to do their best and to enjoy working and playing together in a happy environment. We help them to develop an inner confidence by offering a diverse programme of study and extra curricular activities. They enjoy holding posts of responsibility and readily volunteer to participate in school and community events. Our curriculum approach encourages the girls to be both creative and independent as well as to take responsibility for their learning. They also enjoy numerous and varied outings and are able to make use of the vast grounds to stimulate their imagination. The phrase we adopt to describe our learning experience is 'Have a go, or you'll never know', highlighting the need for the girls to explore, question and challenge in all areas. Recognition of effort and achievement is a key element of this ethos to support our girls when they are pushing their own boundaries of learning.
If you want to know more and wish to experience the school firsthand, you will be made very welcome.
