Cross-country is thriving at DL and I put it down to the excellent environment that we are so lucky to enjoy, combined with the hard work and dedication of the girls. Many trophies have been won by the teams and it has undoubtedly been our best season ever! The U11's won all five of the major events, namely the Hazelwood Relays; IAPS District Race, Thomas Trophy, Woodmansee Shield and the West Kent Cross-Country League. The U9's also won everything apart from being 2nd in the IAPS District Race. They also won the Rawlinson Run for Yr 4 and below. K Faes won Golds, in all 6 races she competed in, and in the same races G Annetts won Silver medals (and a team Gold in the Relay). 44 different girls from DL have taken part in races this year. The U11 team took part in the National Prep Schools XC Championships at Malvern College for the first time, and despite an unfortunate start, finished as 14th best Prep School, and 5th best Small School in the country, beating all the other Kent Schools who took part.
All girls run a short Cross-country course on a weekly basis in the winter terms, which improves their fitness and doubtless leads to the phenomenal results that we achieve as a school. In January, everyone takes part in the Interhouse events on the Parkland, and in 2010 the junior winners were Coniston, and the senior winners were Grasmere.
