Derwent Lodge Cross Country

The season began with a race for the youngsters. The Rawlinson Run is a lovely event where Somerhill Yrs 2, 3 and 4 boys and girls perform in separate races trying to earn points for the school. Overall, Somerhill came 2nd out of 11 schools, with DL Yr 3 girls coming 3rd in their team event and Yr 4 girls coming in as Runners-up. Our best runners were Maisy Smith who finished 6th out of 67 runners for the Year 3's, and Anna Williams-Walker who came 7th out of 65 runners for the Year fours.

In the Hazelwood Relays our two U11 teams gave a fantastic performance to finish in 1st and 2nd place out of 16 teams! The U9's came 5th and 8th out of 16 teams.

The U11's won their event in the Thomas trophy, and the U9's were runners-up. The same results were achieved in the Dobson Trophy.

Cross-country is thriving at DL and I put it down to the excellent environment that we are so lucky to enjoy, combined with the hard work and dedication of the girls. All girls run a short Cross-country course on a weekly basis in the winter terms, which improves their fitness and doubtless leads to the phenomenal results that we achieve as a school. In January, everyone takes part in the Interhouse events on the Parkland, and in 2011 the junior winners were Ullswater, and the senior winners were Grasmere.
