Derwent Lodge U11 hockey team have just won the Kent County Championship, pushing Junior Kings Canterbury into second place. This is the first time DL have achieved county success, and will go on to represent Kent in the East of England championships in Bedford in March 2012. This team improved their performance from when they were 3rd in the Sutton Valence tournament a few weeks ago when Junior Kings emerged victorious!
All hockey matches take place in the Michaelmas term, in line with other schools we play. At DL we run senior A and B teams, with the occasional C team selected to play. We often play mixed ability teams against opposing schools to ensure a 'fair' match. This also gives more of our girls the opportunity to play.
We have had the most successful season ever, since hockey was introduced into the curriculum 10 years ago. The full A teams have played 11 matches, and only lost one when the U11 team went down 2-1 to Sevenoaks School U12B's. The B teams have exactly the same stats - 11 matches with one loss. The mixed ability teams have played 6 with 2 wins, a draw and 3 losses.
Every girl in Years four to six played in the inter house tournaments and in both the Year four and senior tournaments, Ullswater won, with Coniston a close second.
