Derwent Lodge Swimming

Our swimming pool opened in January 2009, and is a wonderful addition to our extensive sports facilities. Years 3 and 4 swim on a weekly basis, and the senior girls have lessons in the second half of each term where they develop their stroke technique, and supplement their water safety knowledge. They also enjoy choreographing synchronised swimming routines, and playing water polo! About half of the senior girls are selected for squad swimming, which take place once a week at lunchtime from September to March. After school swimming clubs take place every Thursday and Friday in the winter terms, and any girl may join these.

We have had excellent results against other schools and the girls were victorious in galas against Holmewood House, Rosehill, St Michaels and Kent College. Granville beat DL in the final gala of the year. The first DL Interhouse swimming gala took place in March, and every girl had the opportunity to swim in an individual race of her choice and a relay. Ullswater were the overall winners. IAPS time trials take place in January, and we send our best swimmers from Yrs 5 and 6 to this event.
