History at Derwent Lodge is a journey from Roman times to Modern Britain.
The girls in Year 3 visit the Roman remains at Lullingstone as part of their studies about Roman Britain and they also research and learn about the Egyptians in their first year at DL.
In Year 4 The Tudors is the main focus for the year and pupils spend a day at Ladyland Farm dressed as Tudors, take part in a day of role playing with visiting experts and in the summer visit the Golden Hinde in London. This is a very popular period to study!
We focus on the Victorians in Year 5 and one highlight of the year is when the girls all dress as servants seeking employment at Preston Manor!
By Year 6 we have reached the 20th Century and the main focus is the Second World War. The girls research and compile a project which often includes interviews with relations or neighbours who lived through the war. The Blitz experience at the Imperial War Museum makes the girls realize how lucky they are to live now.
History is alive at Derwent Lodge!
