ICT at Derwent Lodge

Pupils at Derwent Lodge enjoy the use of a wide range of up-to-the-minute facilities and enthusiastic, specialist teaching. We endeavour to teach pupils ICT that is interesting, fun and challenging but also as realistic, relevant and as safe as possible. This is to enable them to develop ICT capability that is directly transferable, not only to other subjects, but also to their life outside school and their future.

Work is stored in networked pupil files to aid our environmental mission and children are taught to consider this when producing printed work. Examples of final edited work can be seen on display around the school and children are encouraged to share their learning, skills and achievements regularly.

The curriculum has been carefully considered to provide excellent progression for every child, no matter what their starting point. Small classes and clear behavioural expectations enable individualised lessons and work that is clearly linked to the rest of the curriculum as well as discrete teaching of new skills. In Year Three the pupils are reminded of the skills they already possess from Pre-Prep and these are built upon over the year and then every successive year until they leave. This improves their basic skills and confidence, allowing them to become familiar with new programmes as they progress up the school.

Throughout their time at Derwent Lodge, pupils will use Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and PowerPoint to produce work that covers the required objectives. These are regularly updated to encompass new technology.

There are facilities for pupils to continue work from school at home, and for teachers to set and monitor homework remotely if circumstances require.
