Welcome to The Schools at Somerhill

Three schools on one site

With separate preparatory schools for boys and girls (Yardley Court and Derwent Lodge), and a co-educational school for young children (Somerhill Pre-Prep), the Schools at Somerhill are unique in Kent. They are for children aged between 3 and 13 (11 for girls) with the older boys and girls being taught apart but sharing the same specialist facilities and being members of one community.

A very special community

Each school retains its own character under its own Head Teacher but we share the same objectives, and co-ordinate our calendars and teaching programmes. We are overseen by a Principal who is responsible to the Board of Governors of the Charitable Trust.

Every child is a valued individual

A strong emphasis is placed on the development of academic potential. Close attention is paid to the skills that are required for entry to secondary schools. We are proud of our strong academic reputation at both 11 and 13+ entry. Each child is presented with the challenge of varied learning opportunities that enable our students to acquire skills and enduring interests and to grow into a sense of responsibility for the wider community.

Somerhill

Based in a splendid Grade I Jacobean mansion set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland, we are spoilt by our surroundings. Derwent Lodge and Yardley Court are schools with proud traditions but our sights are very much set on the future; providing your children with quality education in an outstanding environment as they prepare for the next stage in their development! Our thriving Somerhill Eco Club helps us to manage our environment in as sensitive a way as possible.
