Learning Support at Yardley Court
The Schools at Somerhill try to ensure that every child’s needs are catered for whether they are exceptionally gifted or have learning difficulties of any kind. It is our policy to identify these needs as early as possible, and provide the level of intervention necessary for the child to reach his or her full potential.
Depending on the severity of the problem, the intervention would take the form of either working with and advising the class teacher, or giving the child extra help either individually or in a small group. If the latter case applied, three teachers are available to give lessons either once or twice each week.
An individual education plan would be drawn up with in-put from the parents, the pupil and all teachers concerned. Regular meetings would take place between the whole team and progress would be carefully monitored.
If it was considered necessary, advice could be offered to parents regarding suitable outside agencies, such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Perceptual Therapists and Optometrists.
As a school we are members of the National Association for Gifted Children and are often offered exciting courses and advice on how to inspire gifted pupils in the classroom.
