At DL we strive to make all of our Maths lessons creative and interactive so that the girls are involved in the learning process. The children are encouraged to challenge their understanding through problem solving and investigative work and in this way they learn to reason more effectively.
Each year we hold a Maths Investigation Day, where the girls enjoy a range of activities, using the grounds and their problem solving skills. As part of this day we hold an Inter-house Maths Race in which all of the girls take part. This is an incredibly fun afternoon where the girls compete in teams against each other to solve as many problems and score as many points as possible, in the bid to win the House Mathematics Cup.
In Years Four to Six, the girls will also take part in Maths Races which take place at other schools in the county as well as our very own Schools at Somerhill race. They thoroughly enjoy their involvement in national and locally based mathematics competitions and in this way develop confidence and enthusiasm for the subject.
