Netball: Review for 2006-07
We started the season well with the U10A netball team finishing as runners-up in the Ryde School tournament where they played superb netball to win 7 and draw 2 of their 9 games. In defence, the girls intercepted beautifully and they only allowed 1 goal to be scored against them all afternoon. Meanwhile, at the other end there was plenty of action and our shooters scored 34 goals in total. Lily (GS) fully deserved her 'best player' certificate.
St Michaels have kindly hosted netball tournaments for U9A, U9B, U11A and U11B teams. Our U9B team emerged as joint winners, where they drew with Aberdour in a tense and exciting final. Our U9A and U11B teams were 3rd in their respective tournaments, so pleasing results all round for the DL teams!
The excellent weather has allowed other fixtures to go ahead without interruption, and there have been over 40 matches played this term. The girls have won just over half of these. When selecting, the standard of the opposition is taken into account, and the strongest players are not always used. This can provide us with an opportunity to give other girls a match. We endeavour to offer each girl from Year 4 upwards at least one match per season, and this is quite a challenge as many schools will only field two teams per year group. The players take it in turns to be captain, and after performing their duties on the day of the match, they compose and proudly read out a match report in assembly. Every girl in DL plays in the junior or senior Interhouse netball tournaments in December.
