Physical Education at Yardley Court

Welcome to the Yardley Court PE and Games Department

Games and PE enjoy a high profile here at Yardley Court and all staff in the department are enthusiastic and qualified. They strive to ensure that all boys benefit not just in a physical way, but also by helping to nurture their personalities and characters. We haven’t forgotten that enjoyment is a key factor too! We run as many teams as possible across the wide variety of sports so as to offer all boys the opportunity to represent their school, whilst also promoting excellence for county, regional or even national honours.

We are situated in 150 acres of glorious parkland and have excellent facilities enabling at least 20 different activities and clubs to take place during the year. We compete in the local prep school circuit in all the major sports but concentrating on football, rugby and cricket. We love our sport here at Yardley - so much so that we competed in over 300 competitive fixtures in 2005/6. Please feel free to browse our results pages and photos.

Sport has long been strength of our school and we are constantly looking to improve the quality of teaching, learning and the whole sporting experience. With the London Olympics only five years away, what better incentive for all our boys to discover their abilities and make choices about involvement in lifelong physical activity.

Curriculum Overview

At Yardley Court we run an extensive year-round programme of sports for our boys. As mentioned above, opportunity and representation are at the heart of our ethos for all boys in both internal house tournaments and our many competitive fixtures.

Michaelmas Term Sports Programme

During Michaelmas Term games lessons the boys concentrate on football and cross country. In PE lessons we focus on basketball and health-related fitness activities. There are also extra-curricular clubs for football, cross-country, rugby, athletics and basketball.

Lent Term Sports Programme

During Lent Term games lessons the boys participate in rugby and cross country. PE consists of gymnastics and hockey. Extra-curricular clubs for cricket, rugby, athletics, cross country, karate, tennis and squash are also run.

Summer Term Sports Programme

During the Summer Term games lessons the boys participate in cricket and athletics. PE includes tennis, swimming and baseball. There are also extra-curricular clubs for cricket, athletics, cross country, swimming, golf, judo, triathlon, tennis and croquet.

Competitions

There are internal House Competitions for football, rugby, swimming and cricket. We host the local prep schools U9 football tournament in the Michaelmas Term. We then welcome schools to the Hudson Cup 'Sevens' for U13 rugby players in the Lent term. Finally we invite the local prep schools U9 cricketers to a tournament here during the Summer Term. There are also county and regional cross country events in both the Michaelmas and Lent Terms. We finish the year with our annual Sports Day.
