Rounders: Review for 2002-03
Derwent Lodge has a very good reputation at all levels for rounders, The key to our success is, again, enthusiastic participation in lessons and team practices by all the girls. Their tactical knowledge is excellent and they always work hard for each other.
U11
'A' Squad: H Smith, L Staffurth, B Delany, T Tappenden, S Leir, J Cornick, A Goodwin, O Culmer, S Francis
'B' Squad: R Boulter, V Bradford, K Harris, A Hirst, L Hodgson, C Jiskoot, A Kidson, K Pease, H Pound, R Sommerville, L Campbell, A Hitch, F Taylor
Our Year Six girls produced some excellent results in matches this term, wth the 'B' team remaining unbeaten. The 'A' team drew with Sutton Valence in the Rose HilI tournament, having beaten them earlier in the season. The only team to beat us were Marlborough House, who deserved their success and went on to do well n the IAPS National Finals. Year Six all had a chance to play in a match in their last few weeks at Derwent Lodge and it as really nice to see the more experienced players playing alongside their class-mates. Notable performances in matches came from Hannah, Lucy and Raffaella as bowlers; Lara and Victoria as backstops; Tulip, Katy and Juliet as post players and Oona, Sasha and Alexandra Hirst as deep fielders.
Full Colours: R Boulter, J Cornick, O Culmer, B Delany, S Francis, A Goodwin, A Hirst, S Leir, H Smith , L Staffurth, T Tappenden
Half Colours: V Bradford, L Campbell, A Kidson, K Pease, H Pound, R Sommerville, F Taylor
U10
Squad: C Daniels, C-R Hamilton, F Maffei, R Scott, M Taylor, S Weir, G Whatman, V Young.
This team had some tough matches against experienced opposition, but managed to pull off victories against Bedgebury, Kent College, Claremont, St Michael's and Sutton Valence. Sevenoaks Prep beat our team 15-10½, and the mighty Marlborough House won 12-7. The first game of the season against Vinehall produced an exciting 14-14 draw.
Francesca Maffei bowled fast and accurately throughout the season and dominated play from the middle. She aso scored many rounders. Camilla-Rose Hamilton took some lovely catches as second deep, and threw the ball in well to fourth post on many occasions. She was also a high scorer in most matches. Grace Whatman, in her first season with DL, discovered that she could also score quite easily, and she proved to be a reliable post player under pressure. These girls really enjoy playing rounders and their tactical play has improved significantly this season.
Full Colours: F Maffei.
Half Colours: C-R Hamilton.

'A' Squad: K Alton, A Barrett, N Boulter, O Harris, C Hollingsworth, N Lukes,
I McNab, L Spence, J Hawkes, C Miles, O Rendall, E Wilkes.
'B' Squad: L Clark, K Garratt, O Harris, T Janney, C Simmonds, A Small, L Tomkins, J Bates, C Cole, E Genders, K Hoskin.
This is a year group wth a lot of potential. From the start of the season the girls listened carefully to advice on how to improve their batting and fielding skills and their enthusiasm for playing never waned. As bowler, Isabel was consistent and rarely gave away any half rounders. She was always alert and caught several people out during the season. Nicky developed lovely technique as backstop and her throw to second base enabled Charlotte Hollingsworth to stump many unsuspecting runners out. Kerry really improved throughout the season and she scored many rounders by thoughtful running. Olivia Rendall and Lucy Tomkins also scored well in matches.
Congratulations should go to both squads on an outstanding set of results. The only draw was our 'B' team against Sevenoaks Prep A team, in an exciting 13-13 match.

Squad: S Bryant, S Capewell, V Estlin, H Grant, B Jones, S Marjoribanks,
H Edwards, A Sommerville, N Wilkinson, K Yandle.
This young team has learned a great deal this season about the game of rounders. They have been very good at making quick decisions and are equally happy as batters or fielders. Sophie Capewell was outstanding as a bowler. It is rare to find such consistency in a young player! Harriet, Hattie and Amy were also impressive in action. The team came together well for their matches against Sutton Valence and St Michael's and deserved their victories.
