Rugby: Review for 2003-04
In the rugby term we played over 80 fixtures and were unbeaten in 80% of them. The highlight was getting two teams through to the IAPS National Finals, held again this year at Epsom College, namely the Colts A and U9 A teams. Again the U9 A and B teams were unbeaten against local opposition and shared this feat with U10 B and D teams, and the Colts B. The Colts A won The Hawthorns 7 a-side tournament and the 1st XV again played some good rugby losing only two games.
Under 10 A Report:
The progress this team made throughout the season was staggering. We started as a forward dominated team which tried to keep the ball close to the breakdowns all of the time and finished by playing expansive, attractive, passing rugby.
Not one games session was spent on rucking and yet it was in this department that we excelled and won a high percentage of both our own and the opposition ball. It was when this amount of possession was linked to handling skills that we started to win matches. The game of the season was the 10-5 victory over New Beacon; here we saw boys tackle, ruck, scrummage and pass with passion and fluidity.
It has been a pleasure to coach these boys because they have listened and tried to incorporate their newly learnt skills into matches. Well done, boys!
