Structure of The Schools at Somerhill

The Schools at Somerhill are unique in Kent and very unusual in England.

They consist of three independent schools:

• Somerhill Pre-Prep (SPP) is a co-educational school for children aged 3 to 6. It feeds the other two schools.
• Derwent Lodge (DL) is a preparatory school for girls aged between 7 and 11.
• Yardley Court (YC) is a preparatory school for boys aged between 7 and 13.

All three schools are housed in a Grade I listed Jacobean mansion and, whilst each school has its own classrooms, some of the facilities are shared. These include the ICT, Music, Drama and Art rooms and all schools have access to the excellent and spacious sporting facilities and also, of course, the grounds, which are some 150 acres in extent. Each school has its own Head; the Head of Yardley Court is also the Principal of The Schools at Somerhill.

The schools belong to the IAPS (Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools). Currently there are 640 children on the roll.
