Tennis: Review for 2003/04

All girls in Derwent Lodge have a single lesson of tennis each week from February half term, until the end of the Summer Term. In addition, winter training sessions have taken place, mainly indoors at lunchtime.

This development has led to the identification of talented players who were chosen to represent the school at the Kent Schools' Championships at Cobham Hall. Two pairs from Year 3 played in the Red group and did well to finish 6th and 8th out of 12. In the Orange group, 17 pairs competed in the early rounds, and both our pairs went on to play in the quarter finals. Nicola and Olivia R played outside in 38mph winds and squally showers and, despite brave attempts, lost their match. In the relative comfort of the sports hall, Emily and Olivia H won their match and proceeded to the semi final where they were narrowly beaten by the eventual 'orange' winners. This tournament was great experience for the girls.
