Tennis: Review for 2004/05

Tennis continues to grow in popularity at Yardley Court, with the tennis courts in constant use during breaks throughout the Summer Term.  The annual Yardley Court Tennis Tournament was again dominated by the Spurling family, but this year with Luke, in the Junior section, joining his cousin Nicholas, in the Senior section, winning their respective competitions.  Charlie Verrell reversed the result of the junior competition two years ago in the Middles section, beating Jonathan Kinsey in a very close final.

In the Kent Schools Tennis Association Tournament, held at the Bromley Tennis Centre, we entered a strong team of eight doubles pairs.  We had solid results across the board, with Charlie Verrell and Ben Woodmansee winning the junior Boys competition against some tough opposition, including Jonathan Kinsey and Barnaby Hodgkins in the semi finals.

In team competitions we played well against some very strong schools in the Kent County Schools knockout tournament, reaching the quarter-finals of the summer competition and the final of the winter competition.  We have played several 'friendly' matches against local prep schools during the Summer Term.  It has been an enjoyable term, with the U11 team scoring some impressive wins and the Senior boys competing with a high level of enthusiasm.
