Yardley Court Home
Yardley Court is a preparatory school for boys aged seven to thirteen. We value and promote our sense of community and this is emphasised by our school motto Comites in Comitate, friends in friendship. We provide an attractive programme that offers boys a good 'all-round' education in wonderful surroundings.
Founded in 1898, Yardley Court has a strong academic record and many boys have won scholarships over the years, especially to Tonbridge School. Boys are prepared for a whole range of secondary schools, however, including the local grammar schools that enjoy a very good reputation. Not all pupils find academic work to be easy but we encourage each boy to give of his best and to be proud of his achievements.
Music and drama flourish within the school. We have a large number of peripatetic music staff so boys have an opportunity to learn many musical instruments. We provide choristers for Tonbridge School Chapel Choir and voice trials are held every year. Every boy appears in our annual year-group drama productions; putting on five different shows is invariably a marathon but fun effort!
The emphasis in sports is again on very active participation and we give every boy the chance to represent the school in each of our major games. Our sporting programme is a traditional one with soccer, rugby and cricket being the principal sports. There are teams from the Under 8 age group right through to Under 13. We also have cross-country, athletics, tennis, hockey, basketball and swimming teams. Other sports include golf, karate, squash, triathlon and judo. The latter are all part of our extensive clubs and activities programme that takes place both at lunchtimes and after school and sees boys and staff engaged in a myriad of different pursuits. The completion of our new multi-purpose hall and astro-turf pitch has greatly enhanced the sporting opportunities on offer to all our children. The construction of a new dining hall and indoor swimming pool got underway in January 2007.
