Tennis continues to be very popular in Yardley Court with the tennis courts being constantly used during break times in the Summer Term. Four Tennis Clubs have run throughout the Summer Term catering in ability for beginners in Year Three and Four to the social player in the middle and senior years and finally to two squads for the more able boys from years Five to Eight.
The Under 12 Team entered the Kent Inter Schools Tennis Tournament with high hopes of reaching the finals this year. Unfortunately the strong team of Jonathan Smith, Spencer Alderton, David Wilkinson and Harry Forbes-Nixon came up against Holmewood House, the eventual champions, in the quarter finals. They fought hard, but eventually lost to their slightly older opposition. More work on foot-work will be needed next year if they are to make it to the finals.
The Year Six boys played a lot of tennis with tournaments in Sevenoaks and Bromley in addition to their friendly matches. Spencer Alderton and Harry Forbes-Nixon proved too strong for their opponents at Bromley and won the Year Six competition. Ben Underhill and Jamie Drewe played very well to finish 5th, well above their seeded position.
The annual Yardley Court Singles Tournaments were held in the last few weeks of the year. Playing matches at this busy time posed some problems but eventually three strong champions emerged. In the Junior Boys Final Thomas Nicholls played consistently to overpower Theo Tebay. The Middles tournament was won by Spencer Alderton and the Seniors by Jonathan Smith, two boys who will be the core of our U13 Team next year. Well done, boys!
